This year Bollywood was on a record breaking spree as far as box office collections are considered. Though, in my opinion the no. of good movies was lesser than last year. Anyways, let us get to the point. Following are the movies I liked the most in 2013.
10. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Pluses - Acting (Ranbir, Deepika,Kalki) , The Cameo of Farooq Sheikh, Songs (Illahi,Kabira,Badtmeez Dil)
Minuses - Repetitive story..stretched 2nd half, useless cameo of Rana Dagubatti..
9. Fukrey
Pluses - Fun plot, superb acting by Varun Sharma and other cast, Dialogues, Ambarsariya song
Minus - A bit incoherent plot in 2nd half
8. Ship of Thesus
Pluses - Visuals, the interactions between the monk and the lawyer in 2nd story, Neeraj Kabi and Sohum shah's acting, the interconnection of the 3 stories
Minus - Tough to understand fully in a single viewing and maybe even in multiple viewings
7. D-Day
Pluses - The thrill, the direction, acting, pictuarisation of Alvida, songs (Murshid Khele Holi , Alvida and others)
Minuses - The ending (looked stretched) , Characterisation of Dawood (Rishi kapoor acted very well, but the role could have been better written, I didn't find him menacing)
6. Shahid
Pluses - A good depiction of a Real Life story, superbly handled courtroom scenes, Acting by Raj Kumar Yadav, Mohd Zeeshan Ayub...
Minus - Some parts unexplained (Shahid going to and coming back from terrorist camp),
5. Mere Dad Ki Maruti
Pluses - Total fun, superb dialogues, the picturisation of Hip hip hurrah, very well acted by whole cast, the climax
Minus - Not really....
4. Lootera
Pluses - Songs, Background music, Visuals, Ranveer Singh , Sonakshi Sinha (good to see her in a non south remake movie, and that she can act), some very well done scenes, Vikrant Messey as dev anand fan, Climax
Minuses - The 2nd half should have been better handled, Divya Dutta (pure wastage of such a superb talent)
3. Raanjhnaa
Pluses - Dhanush was awesome, Swara Bhaskar & Mohd zeeshan Ayub were too (we deserve to see them more in movies), A R Rahamn's music, the use of songs in the narrative , the last scene, the "tum chor kyu bane" scene
Minuses - The narrative lost the path after the story moves to delhi, Sonam Kapoor's characterisation
2. The Lunchbox
Minuses - Not applicable
1. Kai Po Che
Pluses - Better than the book, Superb acting by everyone (Special Mention - Amit Sadh) , Songs , In spite of having read the book it kept me interested for the whole runtime
Minuses - I guess I missed if there were any..
Special Mentions - Madras Cafe (well done John, the producer) , Listen Amaya (Farooq Sheikh & deepti Naval, the shop by the name Book a coffee) , Nautanki Saala (interesting, could have been better), Bhaag milkha Bhaag (only for farhan and havan karenge) , Special 26 (asli power dil mein hoti hai) , ABCD (bring on the sequel), Bombay talkies (the segment - Star , Nawazuddin & Sadashiv Amrapurkar were beyond awesome) , Ghanchakkar (loved the robbery scene & the climax) , Ek Thi Daayan (Konkana Sen was terrifying), Go Goa Gone (Babaji I love you) , Shuddh Desi Romance (the dialogues), Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola (Pankaj kapoor, "the well" scene, surprisingly Arya babbar), Jolly LLB (watch it for Saurabh Shukla)
The movies I missed & want to watch soon are B A Pass, David & War Chhod na yaar.
My biggest achievement was not watching Krrish 3, Dhoom 3, R..Rajkumar & Besharam.
